Acoustic Syndicate
Acoustic Syndicate
Acoustic Syndicate is a highly energetic acoustic americana
act using all acoustic guitar, banjo, upright bass and drums.
With a dynamic vocal trio the group moves in and out of folk,
jazz, rock, r&b, reggae and bluegrass. The core group has
been together since 1992. Occasional additions include flute,
saxophone, and extra guitar. Great guest musicians like Sam
Bush and Larry Keel appear on their
1999 release Tributaries . Their new CD,
Crazy Little Life is affirmation that Acoustic
Syndicate has forged a truly unique sound.
the first work released in 1997, Self Titled Acoustic Syndicate,
also featured Sam Bush. A supercharged energy makes for a
feverish live show.
"Cleveland County, NC's very own bluegrass boys turn out
a second album that eclipses their self-titled debut. With
instrumentation that flows from core bluegrass, Acoustic
Syndicate's music courses through musical tributaries outside of
traditional banjo boundaries. Including such atypical bluegrass
instruments as the bongos and a flute, the Syndicate moves beyond
newgrass and lands on the banks of acoustic originality. This is
one trip worth taking." -- WNCW "Hot
Picks" for 1999, vol. 9 issue 4
"Attention all you jam-bluegrass-newgrass-whatever bands
out there. Listen to Acoustic Syndicate's new disk Tributaries
for a primer in restraint. Tasteful mandolin, guitar and banjo
all wrapped around songs that are more Vince Gill than Bill
Monroe, yet still surprisingly powerful. They don't break off
string-popping solos on every song, which makes it all the more
pleasing when they cut loose. If you put stock in such things,
these guys have what's called a "solid regional buzz."
All I'll say is I like 'em a lot more than a whole heap of
national acts of the same breeding." --from
Creative Loafing, 8/28/99 issue
"...just a few yards away at the Olde Hickory Tap Room,
this evening's entertainment was provided by Shelby, NC's
Acoustic Syndicate. This band just got out of the studio and I
could tell by how much tighter the band sounded on stage. Playing
one song after another at a fevered pitch, everybody's feet and
heads were tapping and nodding all night long. This band plays
some great original material, and in the middle of one of their
tunes they seugewayed into a killer Santana jam... that lasted
for about ten minutes. Hot stuff! Go check 'em out."
