Breakfast, The
Psychedelic Breakfast - New Haven, CT
"Breakfast is Back!"
PSYCHEDELIC BREAKFAST- This 4pc ensemble from CT. ain't your typical jam band. These guys rock! Blending all the best elements of rock, jazz and booty shaking funk PB has solidified their place on the "jam" scene. What separates these cats from all the other "jam bands"? You'll have to be the judge of that, but know this... PB is here to stay. Signed to Sonance Records in late 2000 and fresh off the heels of there 2nd release, PB is touring like a pack of wild dogs. Psychedelic Breakfast are on track for 200 dates in the next year and gaining momentum around every corner. They have shared the stage w/ Leftover Salmon, Israel Vibrations, Robbie Krieger, Jeff Pevar, P-Funk, Iron Butterfly, The Woo Warriors, Max Creek and many more, but are happiest when playing into the wee hours of the morning on stage at Yasgars Farm!
PB's influences are rooted in 60's/70's rock -n- roll and what was then experimental jazz, but even that is to limiting. I've heard them credit the usual suspects such as The Grateful Dead, Phish, Miles Davis aand the Red Hot Chili Peppers as well as some more obscure ones like Sun Ra, Mahavishnu, and Gong. By far the most evident presence is FRANK ZAPPA.
"Psychedelic Breakfast music is by far among the best music around. After you listen to their music I'm sure you'll agree. They bring forth many fields of music into one. You could hear the Zappa as well as P-Funk, James Brown influence in the band's playing. If there should ever be a grandson of Dr. Funkenstein, Psychedelic Breakfast is it. The heavy funk combined with Zappaesque riffs that Psychedelic Breakfast displays brings visions of the Progressive Rock (Funk Fusion) ERA. If you ever have the time to see this band live. GO FOR IT!! I promise you that the total music fanatic and appreciator would not be disappointed."
-Dead Horse Magazine, Mike Maresca
"I was totally amazed with how good this disc was! Prejudging the band's name, I thought this would be like something out of the Height Ashbury revival! No such chance! This is a band that wears their influences on their sleeves gloriously. Shades of Zappa and Piper era Floyd run abound in all their splendid grandeur. The band has an amazing way of combining several different styles in to one amazing platter. Great tracks like the Attraction to Shade Ditty, show the stunning variety of musical prowess that this band displays. Keep your ear open, these guys are getting bigger by the minute. And they truly deserve it! It is not very often that I receive a disc with this much raw originality. The name says it all, but in a very deceiving way. Psychedelic, yes! All kinds of food groups are represented well at this meal!"
-Revolving Door Magazine, Erik Jensen
