Sound Tribe Sector Nine - Peaceblaster CD - STS9 thrives on friction. This may be surprising coming from five musicians who think of themselves as a collective as much as a band. But consider the title of the California-based outfit's long-awaited fourth album. The two words rub against each other to create an image that is simultaneously utopian and violent, fraught with the very contradiction that permeates America circa now. Armed with a batch of song ideas and fueled by the tension of the times, the band took a break from their masochistic touring schedule and holed up in their recording studio. The result is a tour-de-force of gut-punching rhythms and textured, shimmering tones, dense with the Eno-esque layering of live and electronic instruments that STS9 is known for - the chords and samples swirling atop the pulsing bass and drums. But between the beats there is a distinctly human element absent from past records. $14.99
Donna the Buffalo - Silverlined CD - Embodying the culmination of two decades of collaboration between founding members Tara Nevins and Jeb Puryear, Silverlined builds on the band's signature sound - a bedrock of traditional mountain music infused with elements of Cajun, rock, folk, reggae, and country. Silverlined also includes the talents of well-known guests Bela Fleck, Claire Lynch, David Hidalgo and Amy Helm. This release marks the 20th anniversary of Donna the Buffalo! $15.99
Widespread Panic - 12/1/00 Carbondale, IL (3 CDs) - WSP's first ever "vault" release - and it's a hot one from the Houser days, friends! Recorded live at Southern Illinois University Arena in Carbondale, IL on December 1, 2000. $27.99
Del McCoury Band & Friends - Moneyland CD - This compilation gathers songs old, new, angry, somber, and everything in between to shine a spotlight on the sad situation of rural America in the 21st century. Moneyland revitalizes country and bluegrass music's connections to the lives of hardworking people in ways that honor the past, look to the future, and challenge the listeners to act in the present. The collection explores the hardships of rural and urban working people and their families through a thoughtful selection of new songs, neglected gems, and classic favorites performed by The Del McCoury Band, Merle Haggard, Marty Stuart, Emmylou Harris, Patty Loveless, Bruce Hornsby, and others. Highlights include McCoury's vitriolic "Moneyland," Patty Loveless' creepy "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive," and the gospel-infused "The Way It Is" by Bruce Hornsby featuring only piano, vocals, and guest vocals from the Fairfield Four. $15.99
The Radiators - Wild & Free (2 CDs) - If there's been one constant in American Rock & Roll in the last 30 years it's The Radiators. This New Orleans based quintet has either been touring or recording over this entire time frame. Still consisting of the 5 original members, this band is as relevant today as when they first started out. Now, for the first time, they have gone back through the vaults and put together a retrospective that covers all the stages of their career, highlighting live performances and rare studio recordings of their all-time classics, as well as offering unreleased gems. In addition they've recorded two new tracks specifically for this compilation. One listen to this CD and you'll know why "Wild & Free" is not only a great song but also describes the Rads way of life. $13.99
The Black Ghosts - The Black Ghosts CD - After two years of occasional underground club singles, the long wait is over - and The Black Ghosts' sublime, stunning debut is finally out in the U.S. - featuring all the club hits like "Face," "Something New," and more. If you like a perfectly pitched sonic mix of electro, rock, pop, and dance, you came to the right place. With vocals from Simian's ex-lead singer Simon Lord, this is really the "third" Simian album, but why quibble with perfection? $13.99
David Becker Tribune - Leaving Argentina CD - Jazz Podium calls him "a poet on the guitar." When you hear David Becker play, you are hearing one of the true greats of modern jazz guitar - an artist who will eventually find his name mentioned alongside giants like John McLaughlin and Wes Montgomery. Leaving Argentina doesn't overwhelm with Latin styles, but injects enough of their flavor into Becker's satisfying compositions to create a distinctly enjoyable album. The BBC says "this is a jazz album with a hint of Latin spice and a whole lot of warmth, skill and style. A really lovely album, in fact." $15.99
