Turbine

Hometown: New York City, NY

Hailing from New York City, Turbine has been quickly attracting audiences who have come to expect the unexpected.
They scratch like a DJ with their harmonicas, turn an electric guitar into a silver fiddle, and sing three-part harmonies over wild, high energy sci-fi bluegrass rock soundscapes. Their unique talents have not only landed them in such renowned festivals as 10,000 Lakes and Wakarusa, but have led to collaborations with Del McCoury, Benevento-Russo Duo, moe., and many others. Selected by Relix Magazine as “Artists on the Verge,” Turbine offers up their new album “Reward” featuring nine exhilarating tracks. Turbine’s first album “Don’t Mind if I Should” features the duo of Jeremy Hilliard and Ryan Rightmire. Rightmire not only plays the acoustic guitar, but an effects powered harmonica that has pulled the instrument out of the past and into the future. Hilliard, in addition to being a prolific songwriter, brings an electric guitar style steeped in the blues and roots traditions of the south. Many of their live staples are found on this release including Slain, Wrong Side, and New Age of Sun. With their second album “Reward,” Turbine has emerged as a full band. The additions of Justin Kimmel on bass and Eric Johnson on drums have brought the group to a new level, allowing them to seamlessly switch from one style to the next. Standout tracks include “Invited,” which finds the band knee deep in a swampy zydeco-influenced groove. “Roll On” brings a fusion of bluegrass and rock to the mix, offering its inspirational chorus even in the darkest of times. “Blackout Song” is likely the ‘feel good’ song of the album, and Reward ends perfectly with “Rosehill Promenade,” its instrumentation and vocal style as evocative of a rainy day as its lyrics. "Their sound is exhilarating, with flurries of melodic guitars and wailing harp propelling complex improvisations" - Relix Magazine, “Artists on the Verge” "Their music wails, whispers and directs our thoughts to the deeper mysteries of life" – Jambands.com "Turbine turns up the throttle with some fine harmony vocals and blistering solos” – Americana UK "A four-piece band from New York that writes in just about every style imaginable" – Jambase "Spontaneous and genuine music that comes straight from the soul. Hilliard is lightning fast on electric guitar and Rightmire plays harmonica like he's running from the law" – Babysue.com "What’s different and unique is their approach to songwriting, as they songsmith traditional sounds of rock, bluegrass and Americana for a blending that reeks of genius. Turbine is not what you’d immediately expect from the Big Apple but it’s what you’ll now be holding as the standard" – Smother.net
