Ten Ton Chicken - Efitol CD - Ten Ton Chicken is back. It took many many years, finally Efitol is here! Perpetual Groove - Heal CD -
The album is the first to feature new keyboardist John Hruby. Features a limited edition cover, featuring the album artwork in 3-D lenticular form. This edition is limited to the first pressing and will not be made available on subsequent re-pressings of the album, so don't hesitate to place your order.
Heal was recorded at Chase Park Transduction studios in Athens, GA. The album was produced and engineered by David Barbe (Drive by Truckers, Cracker) who also produced Brock Butler's latest solo effort, "Lately Here Though." The album features mostly newer material, including the instrumental track "Honey Cut" and the Hruby-led "40 Roses," the first Perpetual Groove album track to feature someone other then lead singer Brock Butler on lead vocals. Each successive studio album is always a journey for the musicians and the end product usually reflects this, "Heal" is no different. You won't find any swelling synthesizers or loops on the compositions contained within, in their place, a focus on songwriting, themes, and an overall "timeless" quality to the sonic landscape of Perpetual Groove. Read our review here. $14.99

Danny Barnes - Pizza Box CD -The lead single, 'Overdue', features familiar background vocals by fan and friend, Dave Matthews, who is a champion of the project and releasing the John Alagia produced album on his label, ATO Records. Known early on for his work with the seminal Austin alternative country band, the Bad Livers, Barnes has developed a profile for himself as one of the most progressive and genre-bending artists of his craft. With Pizza Box, Barnes spins tales of American life like a latter-day John Steinbeck, wielding banjo and pen with equal effect, and the character of his voice as the perfect mouthpiece to truly bring these songs and stories to life. He tells tales with the wry wit and humor of Garrison Keillor, the lyrical eccentricities and intellect of Randy Newman, performed with the southern twang and swagger of Levon Helm. Barnes combines and blends all of these elements into a style that is uniquely his own. $11.98
South Memphis String Band - Home Sweet Home CD - When Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars, Black Crowes), Alvin Youngblood Hart and Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers) got together to make music, it certainly wasn't out of commercial consideration. This troika of roots-imbued musical pros coalesced through a shared vision and consuming passion for the music of their forebears, most notably the Mississippi Sheiks, Memphis Jug Band, Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers and other practitioners of pre-blues era roots sounds.
Home Sweet Home showcases their passion for the old timey tradition that is underscored by the group's name: South Memphis String Band. South Memphis, of course, is that rough and tumble area of the Bluff City extending from downtown to the Mississippi border, and beyond. It's where Stax Records as well as, literally, hundreds of churches thrived. The sacred and profane, holy rolling and dice rolling, were cheek by jowl in old South Memphis and its modern day namesake reflects that ecumenicism quite brilliantly. For Luther, Alvin and Jimbo, South Memphis is more of a musical state of mind than a specific geographical location. $15.98
