3/6 Hampton Phish Latenight: Basshound, J.Wail, and DJ Bowie

Friday March 6, 2009 will be madness in the streets of Hampton, VA as fans from all over the U.S. gather for the much-anticipated return of Phish at the Hampton Coliseum. As Phish-goers swim out of the chaos, Basshound, J.Wail, and DJ Bowie will be ready to fire up the funk only a half mile away with their dance-infused line up, lights, live art, food and drinks at the Cinema Cafe (1044 Von Schilling Dr.)
Hailing from Baltimore,MD Basshound brings a new level of energy to the dance floor night after night, fusing electrofunk grooves with carefully crafted song. The Baltimore based act earned the respect of fans and turned heads after ripping up their set at the All Good Festival in Summer 2008. Having gathered a strong following on the east coast they have claimed an original sound, focused on dirty funk but with influences that range from jazz to metal. In recent months they took their tour further down the road and spent a month bringing their original fusion to the Rocky Mountain territory.
The line up for Friday also includes the digital wizardry of national touring sensation J.Wail who creates his own style of "live-club-funk" through innovative techniques using guitar, bass, vocals, synthesizers and live electronics. With 450+ shows in the last three years, J.Wail has proved himself one of the top up and coming acts on the scene. His talents have earned him on-stage guest/jams with Michael Travis/Jason Hahn (EOTO/String Cheese Incident), Bassnectar, Dean Ween (Ween), Brock Butler (Perpetual Groove), Ekoostik Hookah, Tom Constanten (Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame, ex member of the Grateful Dead), and members of the Brazilian Girls.
Asheville’s DJ Bowie (Shkr Fam) will kick off the night at 12:00 am with a conglomeration of sounds from every corner of dance music- made complete with live drumming. Having performed at Trinumeral, Bonnaroo, The Echo Project, and One World International and being voted best DJ/Turntablist in WNC two years running, Bowie's sure to get the afterparty started. Expect the unexpected as Bowie makes live drumbeats while moving freely through a range of contrasting styles.
The night is made complete with Jon Blake, better known as Crazyredbeard who will be creating live art throughout the evening. Crazyredbeard has been painting live/visionary works since 2005 on the east coast and beyond. Described by fans as "Dali and a graffiti artist in a blender," and "Picasso on acid," Crazyredbeard will certainly add to the festivities of the evening.
The party goes from 12am-5am and tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
Party-goers can drink until 2:00 am and food is available until 5:00 am.
