Andy Falco & Travis Book - Saxapahaw, NC 3/21/24

Falco & Book of the Infamous Stringdusters play tribute to Jerry Garcia.

Andy Falco (guitar/vocals) and Travis Book (bass/vocals) returned to the beautiful Haw River Ballroom for the first time since performing there with their band, The Infamous Stringdusters, in 2019. This time they played an excellent tribute to Jerry Garcia, who's music had an important role in their own musical development. Falco even shared a story about how his older brother checked him out of school early one day to bring him along for what would be his first Grateful Dead show (Hartford, CT 1986). He said his older brother was also responsible for him learning to play guitar - thanks bro! The crowd enjoyed the performance thoroughly, dancing in all the spaces where there weren't seats, and singing along to all the lyrics. Travis Book gave a shout out to Rooster Walk, saying he was wearing his socks from the festival, and reminding everyone that he would be playing there with Broke Mountian Bluegrass Band as well as a performance from himself, Jeff Sipe on drums, Daniel Seriff on guitar, and Derrick Gardner on keys.

They played a nice selection of songs from the Jerry Garcia catalog and made sure to mention the contributions of Robert Hunter who wrote the lyrics to many of Garcia's best songs. The duo also mentioned that they never have a pre-written setlist. Instead they just read the crowd and the moment and play what feels right.
