James Taylor - The Mermaid Theatre CD

$16.99

Born in March 1948, James Taylor achieved his breakthrough in 1970 with the single 'Fire and Rain', and had his first No. 1 hit in 1971 with his recording of 'You've Got a Friend', written by Carole King in the same year. His 1976 Greatest Hits album was certified Diamond and has sold 12 million US copies. Following his 1977 album, JT, he has retained a large audience over the decades. Every album that he released from 1977 to 2007 sold over 1 million copies. He enjoyed a resurgence in chart performance during the late 1990s and 2000s, when he recorded some of his most-awarded work (including Hourglass, October Road, and Covers). He achieved his first number-one album in the US in 2015 with his recording Before This World. Flanked by two further greatest hit releases, Taylor's Platinum-certified October Road appeared in 2002 to a receptive audience. It featured a number of quiet instrumental accompaniments and passages. Overall, it found Taylor in a more peaceful frame of mind. In the wake of the release James and his band set out on the October Road Tour, beginning on September 4th 2002 in London and culminating in Phoenix, Arizona in November 2003. In March 2003, Taylor was back in the UK and on 25th of the month he performed again in England's capital city, at the prestigious Mermaid Theatre. Still considered to be perhaps the finest show on the tour, the entire event was recorded for live FM Radio broadcast across the UK and back in the USA too. Previously unreleased, this stunning show is now available on CD for the first time, certain to delight fans of this maverick singer-songwriter who now celebrates 50 years of enormous musical success.
