In April 2005, John Prine released Fair and Square, his first studio album of new material since 1995's Lost Dogs & Mixed Blessings. The new record was received enthusiastically by fans and critics alike, and went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk album in 2006. In the wake of Prine's new record, he played a handful of concerts across the US during 2005, but only one show outside the Union. On 11th November, he performed at the Glor Irish Music Centre, in Ennis, County Clare, near Ireland's West Coast. Putting on a startling concert, during which the great man mixed new songs with John Prine classics from across his career, he left the fairly small crowd somewhat awed by what took place that early winter evening in John Prine's spiritual home, some 15 years ago.
