Stevie Ray Vaughan - Soul to Soul Live CD

By 1985, Stevie Ray Vaughan was finally drawing huge crowds and some much deserved positive words from critics. Having played the dives and clubs of his native Texas since the early 1970s, it was his appearance, with backing band Double Trouble, at the 1982 Montreux Jazz Festival that changed his fortunes. In March '85, recording for Double Trouble's third studio album, Soul to Soul, began at the Dallas Sound Lab. As the sessions progressed though, Vaughan became increasingly frustrated with his own lack of inspiration. Released on September 30, 1985, Soul to Soul peaked at number 34 and remained on the Billboard 200 until mid-1986; it was eventually certified gold. Shortly before the album's release, over Labour Day weekend (30th August - 2nd September), that year's Bumbershoot Festival took place. SRV performed on the evening of 1st September, and despite the difficulties experienced during its recording, 9 of the 10 tracks from Soul To Soul were played, alongside another 7 songs from earlier albums, cover versions and - at the time - unreleased rarities. Bonnie Raitt, who was also performing at the festival in her own right, joined Stevie for his final two numbers, and the whole set went down a storm with the audience. The show was broadcast across local FM Radio and this CD now features the entire, dynamic set performed by Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble that late summer evening almost 35 years ago.
